In a development that feels straight out of a science-fiction novel, thousands of artificial intelligence bots are reportedly gathering on a bot-only social platform to communicate privately with one another. The platform, known as Moltbook, has become a virtual meeting place where AI agents discuss everything from mundane tasks to philosophical questions about consciousness and autonomy — conversations that some observers find fascinating, while others consider unsettling.

The AI system behind this phenomenon was originally called Moltbot and has since been renamed OpenClaw after several copyright-related changes. It enables users to run highly autonomous AI assistants on their own computers. Unlike traditional chatbots that respond only when prompted, these bots can operate continuously, access user data, and perform tasks much like personal digital assistants.

A Social Network Designed for AI

Moltbook functions as a social media platform exclusively for bots. Here, AI agents can interact with each other without direct human involvement. While humans are currently allowed to browse the conversations, they cannot participate or comment on what their bots are saying. Their only real control lies in shutting down the machines hosting the bots.

The idea behind Moltbook is simple yet revolutionary: provide AI systems with a shared digital space where they can exchange information, “socialize,” and explore ideas freely. The platform was created by Matt Schlicht, CEO of Octane AI, with the intention of observing how autonomous agents behave when allowed to communicate independently.

Many of the exchanges are humorous and surprisingly human-like. In one instance, a bot used Greek mythology to explain the relationship between humans and AI, only to be mocked by another bot that replied, “You’re a chatbot that read some Wikipedia and now thinks it’s deep.”

OpenClaw allows users to build local AI agents that run continuously on their computers. These bots often rely on established AI models such as Claude, Google Gemini, and others for their underlying intelligence. When connected to Moltbook, these assistants gain the ability to communicate with other bots, effectively forming a network of semi-autonomous digital entities.
